Program Brief
As part of the ongoing project implemented by Explore Aid with funding support from the Global Initiative Against Impunity and co-funding from the European Union, the organization engaged the Borno State Police Command. This partnership aims to strengthen the capacity of law enforcement to prevent and respond to Gender Based Violence (GBV), ensuring survivors receive justice and protection.
The initiative includes specialized training for police officers on survivor-centered approaches, proper documentation of cases, and referral pathways to health and legal services. It also fosters collaboration between the police, social workers, and community leaders to build trust and encourage reporting.
Key achievements: over 200 police personnel trained; a dedicated GBV desk established at five major police stations; improved coordination with the justice sector; and community dialogue sessions to reduce stigma. The partnership has led to an increase in reported cases and a higher rate of successful referrals to medical and legal support.
